To make your own homemade margarita mix, all you need is three simple ingredients—and no alcohol! It couldn’t be easier to make this base for the classic tequila drink at home.
1 ½cupsfreshly squeezed lime juicefreshly squeezed (from about 10-12 limes)
Instructions
Make the margarita mix
Make the simple syrup. Combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar in a saucepan on the stovetop. Heat and stir occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved into the water. Remove from the heat, and let cool.
Juice the limes. Place a small fine mesh strainer on top of a liquid measuring cup (or bowl), and juice the limes over it. This way, you’ll catch any seeds or pulp that come out of the limes as you juice them.
Combine the ingredients in a pitcher or a large mason jar. Stir until combined, then refrigerate.
How to make a single margarita
Measure 1 ½ oz. tequila, 1 oz. triple sec and 2 ½ oz. margarita mix into a cocktail shaker with ice.
Shake vigorously until very cold, then strain and pour into your prepared glass.
Garnish with a lime wedge, and enjoy immediately.
How to make a pitcher margarita
Find your largest pitcher.
Pour 12 oz. (1 ½ cups) tequila, 8 oz. (1 cup) triple sec and 20 oz. (2 cups) homemade margarita mix into the pitcher.
Stir, and refrigerate until cold.
Enjoy over ice!
Notes
If your limes are extremely bitter, you might need to add more simple syrup to them to balance out the bitterness. Be sure to taste your margarita mix before mixing it in a drink.Store the margarita mix in a covered container (like a mason jar) for up to a week in the fridge. To make a frozen margarita, freeze your margarita mix into 1-oz. ice cubes. Blend them with a combination of tequila and triple sec to make a frozen margarita.
